As the National Media Adviser you will be responsible for the delivery of consultancy style, in-house media support to increase brand awareness and profile of BDO nationally.

Your new role:

Reporting directly to the National Head of Clients & Markets, you will work in conjunction with two other in-house National Media Advisers (based in Sydney and Brisbane) to deliver consultancy style, in-house media support for BDO nationally.

You will provide media support to the business at office, divisional and sector levels, and to the broader national clients and markets teams on key national and local projects and thought leadership to ensure continuity and consistency of messaging throughout all external communications.

A central function of your role will be to work closely on strategic priorities across the BDO network (in Australia) to proactively identify and create media opportunities, and to discover and amplify news and stories that help to maximise media interest in and exposure of the BDO brand and partner profiles among key target audiences.

You will be proactive, energetic and ideas-driven, happy to work in a national environment as part of a three-person media team with assigned portfolios.

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Tertiary qualification in public relations, communications or journalism
  • 7+ years’ experience in similar role (partnership structure/professional services business or a PR agency would be desired)
  • Strong media relations and understanding of changing media landscape
  • Proficient in social media
  • Strong business sense and knowledge of issues affecting business in Australia
  • Adeptness to take relatively technical subject matter and craft newsworthy content in relatively short time frames
  • Strong in written and verbal communications, together with verifiable copy writing and influencing skills for media liaison
  • Exceptional ‘news sense’ and the ability to build and maintain relationships with journalists
  • Willing to work collaboratively to develop and manage business relationships, together with an ability to work effectively in a national team as well as independently
  • Exceptional time management skills in order to prioritise journalist deadlines and manage project deadlines within a part-time capacity.
