The role

An exciting 12 month contract opportunity has arisen for a Business Development Manager to join our Clients and Markets team in Sydney on a full time basis.

This busy and varied role will see you provide professional support to our Corporate, M&A and Capital Markets Partners in the development and implementation of client and business development plans and associated activities.

In this position you will have the opportunity to work autonomously with industry leading partners and senior Clients and Markets professionals on important and challenging local and national projects. Key responsibilities:

Working closely with the National Practice Group Leader, Partners and the broader Corporate, M&A and Capital Markets group you will develop and implement sophisticated, client-focused and market-focused strategies to achieve the firm's and practice group's objectives.

You will be involved in:

  • Supporting the national Corporate, M&A and Capital Markets group on the project management and delivery of tenders and driving bid opportunities.
  • Developing and implementing effective business development plans.
  • Identifying client/new work opportunities, emerging product and service areas and working with other stakeholders to pursue these.
  • Client account management.
  • Mentoring and leading team members.
  • Supporting Partners with planning or workshop days as required.
  • Identifying opportunities to profile the group's expertise across the firm
  • Communicating the vision and purpose of the Clients and Markets team to the firm to heighten its understanding of the role of Clients and Markets as trusted advisers.

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in a business-related discipline (marketing or law highly regarded).
  • Strong tender management skills.
  • A proactive and pragmatic approach.
  • Proven leadership of a small-medium sized team.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills including the ability to influence, persuade and negotiate.
  • Resilience and self-motivation - able to work autonomously with a large degree of flexibility and adaptability.
  • A genuine desire and commitment to going beyond delivery, including knowledge and skills development, participation in practice group, client and firm initiatives and in building and maintaining a strong personal profile in the legal BD market.

The Clients and Markets team

The Clients and Markets team is responsible for advising and providing services to the business on practice group and client development opportunities. This includes the full spectrum of the marketing mix from bid management and opportunity identification to client relationship management and the development of tailored marketing materials. It also includes an active role in event management, client, market and industry research and analysis, media and corporate affairs, legal communications and branding and design.
