With a practice understanding of the strategic importance of the function, Colin Biggers & Paisley has partnered with Dalton Handley to search for their Director of Business Development and Marketing (BDM). Reporting to the Managing Partner and managing a team of 13 driven BDM professionals, this role is as unique as the practice.

The Director of Business Development and Marketing will be instrumental in driving Colin Biggers & Paisley's continual growth in key areas of practice whilst developing innovative new ways to deliver legal services and consultancy solutions to arm their clients for the future.

Key Accountabilities

This Business Development and Marketing Director is responsible for developing and enabling the practice’s strategic direction in collaboration with the Managing Partner, Group Heads and fellow Leadership Team members in relation to:

  • Management of business-wide and individual practice group BDM and client strategies to drive revenue growth.
  • Brand profile raising, marketing communications and thought leadership programs.
  • Business-wide customer experience (CX) program and activities.
  • Pursuit, bid and tender strategy.
  • High-level practice coaching and influencing skills for individual partners and partner candidates.
  • Development of a business consulting services offering for key clients.
  • Pricing and revenue improvement activities.
  • Managing three direct reports and leadership of the broader BDM function.

Essential Competencies

  • 15+ years’ proven experience in senior business development and/or marketing roles in professional services, ideally with some experience in legal practice.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and as part of a national team whilst supervising/managing and coaching staff.
  • Demonstrable experience in leading and developing high performing teams, including attracting and retaining talent.
  • Sound understanding of professional services firm practicebusiness development, client growth and marketing theory and related concepts/structures/activities.
  • Proven experience in working with business areas and practice groups to progress BD, marketing and CRM-specific strategies and activities.
  • Highly organised, with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to project positive influence across the practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all levels of staff and clients.
  • Highly professional presentation and communication skills.
  • Commercially astute with a proven ability to innovate and apply new ideas that achieve results.
  • Strong network across the legal industry and sectors relevant to the practice.
