Our client is a prominent global professional services business holding a pre-eminent position across the Asia-Pacific region and Europe. The Firm’s partners are not only leaders in their respective fields; they are fully invested in communications, marketing and business development. An opportunity to work closely with some of the most senior partners in the firm as a trusted strategic communications leader, advisor and coach has arisen, based in Sydney or Melbourne.

Working closely with the broader Global Communications Team, the External Communications Leader will develop and execute the firm’s public relations strategy, with a particular focus and responsibility for Australia.

Role responsibilities:

  • Promotes the communications strategy and provides clarity around how they can contribute to the success
  • Overseas the execution of the external communications strategy in Australia
  • Provides "trusted advice" to the Regional Managing Partner in relation to managing issues with the potential to damage the reputation of the firm
  • Works with the leadership team to drive changes / initiatives in the practice areas
  • Recruits talented people to join the communications team
  • Invests time and energy in developing team members to reach full potential
  • Advises and supports firm leadership, lawyers, and professional staff in all media opportunities, including developing opportunities to meet with journalists
  • Plans and executes global thought leadership campaigns to promote the firms brand in Australia
  • Analyses results for PR efforts and recommends strategic action based on market trends and best practice in the communications business
  • Oversees relationships with third party suppliers essential to the running our business i.e. media monitoring and contact platforms and PR agencies in Australia
  • Promotes the firms brand through attendance at key networking and other forums
  • Understands and keeps track of market trends and gains relevant
  • insight to ensure the firm remains competitive

The successful candidate for this role will have proven expertise at a senior level in professional services and possess the following:

  • Deep understanding of the global media environments – with a particular focus on Australia.
  • Strong and established relationships with domestic, regional, legal, trade, broadsheet, and broadcast media and ability to expand contacts.
  • Exceptional judgment, discretion, responsiveness, and initiatives
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interface with clients, the media, and all levels of personnel within the firm.
  • Superior writing and editing skills and ability to communicate complex legal ideas to a wider audiences
  • Results-oriented with the ability to effectively prioritise and balance competing demands.
