Grant Thornton Australia is growing and with growth comes the opportunity for an ambitious Business Development Manager to play a pivotal role in delivering on our strategy. This position will be offered on a permanent part time basis, 4 days per week.

In this role you will use your local market knowledge and strategic experience to enable the Adelaide partnership to achieve their growth and revenue targets. You will take leadership of local business development activities and develop close relationships with senior stakeholders that will enable you to inspire, equip and challenge them to achieve their business development goals.

With proven coaching skills, you will take your highly developed business development and marketing experience and transfer this to practical and tactical plans of action that are tailored to our clients’ needs and our service offering, and inspire and motivate our people to achieve their business development goals. This is the chance for you to do what you do best by building stakeholders confidence in identifying opportunities, tracking pursuits and converting these into long-term clients.

Key responsibilities include

  • Providing Partners with 1-on-1 strategic and tactical business development coaching, including providing support identifying and pursuing new opportunities
  • Leading strategic pursuit opportunities and championing best practice tender / proposal processes
  • Facilitating BD discussions and collaboration, and overseeing strategic client activities
  • Engaging with clients to elicit feedback and understand future needs
  • Driving adaptations and application of firm strategy in the local market, and ensuring ROI on all market activity
  • Championing the roll out of firm-wide Business Development and Marketing systems, tools and processes in Adelaide
  • Enhancing the business development capability of the firm through sharing best practice methodologies and delivering BD development initiatives
  • Collaborating with the broader Marketing team members to ensure integration of BD and strategic marketing activities and contributing to the overall success of the function.

You will be agile, responsive and intuitive, and a natural connector of people and opportunities. You will bring gravitas and credibility to the role from your wealth of previous experience, your connections, and your commercially savvy mindset.

Skills and experience

  • Minimum 8 years business development experience, preferably in a professional services environment
  • Previous exposure to, and understanding of the accounting industry highly beneficial
  • Understanding of a B2B, service driven environment
  • Ability to build relationships at all levels and positively influence senior stakeholders
  • Exceptional communication skills and a strong sense of situational awareness
  • Highly IT literate, including advanced Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills. Knowledge and experience of Salesforce or similar CRM systems highly desirable
  • Degree qualifications in marketing or related business discipline
