Business Development Manager

Working alongside a second BD Manager and one BD Executive, this existing role within the firm’s centralised Business Development and Marketing team will be instrumental in supporting the expansion of the firm’s service offering and execution of key marketing and BD initiatives.

  • Key responsibilities
  • Acting as a key advisor in developing quality tender responses and capability statements.
  • Assisting lawyers in building their BD skills.
  • Working together with partners on client and sector pursuits, including both long-term strategies and shorter term action plans to achieve requisite external brand awareness and building of beneficial client relationships.
  • Generating novel ideas and offering alternative approaches to developing business leads and capitalising on current opportunities.
  • Participating in client engagement and client listening.
  • Participating in team projects as required.
  • Preparing directory and award submissions, including gathering information, organising and preparing partners for interviews, and internal and external communications.
  • Remaining up to date on recent firm deals and transactions and working with other members of the marketing team to keep practice publications and thought leadership current.
  • Reviewing sponsorship and award opportunities as they arise.
  • Staying abreast of industry, news, trends and opportunities, whilst undertaking industry, client and firm research projects.
  • Updating tender precedents including practice group descriptions and firm policy text etc.
  • Regularly updating website content.
  • Supporting the Communications Manager in drafting content for release internally, on the website, LinkedIn, or as press releases, particularly in relation to specific deals and transactions.
  • Working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to plan and execute events, including as part of major sponsorships.

Competencies and attributes

  • Business development experience gained in a professional services environment.
  • Strong influencing and communication skills, particularly in relation to partners and senior management.
  • The ability to work under pressure in a deadline driven environment and juggle numerous tasks.
  • Initiative, creativity and a keen eye for detail, particularly in the drafting of compelling documents and coordination of successful client initiatives.
  • Active, working knowledge of marketing theory, concepts and practice.
  • Good understanding and use of Microsoft programs.
  • Project management skills.
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Clear team spirit.
