About the role

We have an opportunity for an experienced Business Development Manager (BDM) to join our Business Development and Marketing team, to work closely with the Australian Finance and Asset Management & Investment Funds groups.

With several lawyers recently joining, it is an exciting time to join this growing group, with your skills at bringing together the team to identify cross-selling opportunities between members, and across the global platform, are critical to your success in the role. Highly regarded in their industry, you'll be supporting the group to leverage their industry relationships to win new work.

Reporting to the Director of Business Development, this role is crucial in driving the success of the group and the firm.

What does the role involve?

The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • liaising with partners, practice group members and client teams on business development initiatives at a strategic level
  • leveraging the strong partnerships this group holds with industry associations
  • developing and implementing client relationship and profile building activities, with the assistance of the Communications teams
  • managing the key client account programme across Australia with particular focus on the financial sector
  • working closely with Director of Business Development, to identify strategies in support of the business goals
  • managing pursuits including tenders and capability statements in addition to pitch advisory to the lead lawyer
  • advising our lawyers on the best course of action when responding to the needs of our clients
  • assisting in the operational management of the Business Development team which includes conducting performance and development reviews, recruitment and training of junior team members
  • developing and tracking business development budgets with respective practice leaders
  • providing support on global, regional and national Business Development projects.

To be successful in this role you will have experience as a Business Development Manager with professional services marketing experience within the legal industry. This role is a great opportunity for candidates with strong leadership and business partnering skills and who want to be part of growing the K&L Gates brand and client base across Asia Pacific and globally.

This role will have key stakeholders in Australia and requires a candidate with a proven track record in managing and preparing large scale tenders as well as ad hoc pitches, capability statements and award and directory submissions. We expect this person to play a true adviser role for our partners in focussing their business development efforts.

Strong communication and excellent client relationship management skills are essential.
