In this role you will assist partners in identifying opportunities for revenue growth through market and competitor analysis. Specifically, the Business Development Analyst supports the business development efforts of the allocated Practice Teams (primarily Banking, Financial Services and Restructuring & Insolvency) by providing research and preparation materials on target industries, markets and companies using publicly available sources and the firm’s internal client relationship management (CRM) system. The position will also support pursuit strategy and execution, lead generation and nurturing efforts, pipeline management, meeting preparation and debrief.

Responsibilities

Support development of MBD and growth plans for Practice area

  • Facilitate the development of Practice Team plans by analysing competitive position, as well as researching, synthesising and presenting competitive data, market and company research and industry trends.

Financial Markets Analysis

  • Review market and deals intelligence from Australian and international databases and sources, including Connect 4, MergerMarket, DebtWire, D&B Hoovers, Westlaw, various media databases such as Infra News, etc, to identify market trends and opportunities.

Business development and opportunity management support

  • Identify opportunities to acquire new clients via targeted pursuits or incept new legal products that address emerging issues and risks.
  • Bring ideas to partners in allocated Practice Teams about potential opportunities to engage existing clients identified by monitoring news alerts, company and analyst reports, stock market announcements, etc.
  • Support targeted pursuits by allocated Practice Teams by undertaking or commissioning research on the target to yield both organisational and individual contact intelligence.
  • Maintain BD trackers and opportunity pipelines.

Client feedback

  • Analyse client feedback performance and trends for the allocated Practice Teams.

Competitor intelligence

  • Monitor competitor developments including directory rankings, web content, and market engagement including articles published and events, and report on this to Practice Team Leader(s).

Bids and tenders

  • Contribute to bid qualification and value proposition development by researching our competitive position and track record.

Campaign design and reporting

  • Draw upon knowledge of market trends and developments to contribute ideas for campaign development, including suggesting themes and topics to extend live campaigns based on engagement by specific contacts and contact segments.

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience as a marketing/BD professional in B2B environment (preferably professional or financial services)
  • An undergraduate degree in marketing, accounting, law or librarianship; major in market research highly regarded
  • Highly developed research and data assimilation skills
  • Strong commercial acumen grounded in industry and markets understanding
  • Excellent writing, editing and communications skills
  • Ability to influence and challenge senior executives on the relevance and value of data-driven insights
  • Ability to pivot between working independently (often with minimal supervision) and collaboratively across multi-disciplined teams
  • Experience working in legal sector marketing highly regarded
