Simpson Grierson is one of New Zealand’s leading commercial law firms – and also one of the largest. They have engaged us to source a newly created role for their team – Senior Clients & Markets Manager.

This role will report to the Strategy & Markets Director and play a key role in driving the business development activity of the firm. You will use your market knowledge and expertise to advise partners and lawyers on developing client relationships and new business opportunities. This role will work with practice areas and sector groups to develop and implement successful growth plans.

The purpose of creating this role is to increase the amount of high level business development advisory support within the firm, allowing the business to take advantage of more opportunities.

The success of the role will be seen through improved client relationships and successful business development initiatives, and through significant demand for the role’s services within the firm.

This role will be able to utilise other resources within the team – and key responsibilities will include:

Primary responsibility for the Client Account Leadership Program

  • Practice & Sector BD initiatives
  • Tenders, RFPs and Pursuits
  • Training & Coaching
  • Strategic Projects

About You

You will ideally bring a relevant Degree and have 8-10+ years’ BD & Client Development experience, much of which will have come from the professional services sector (law, accounting, engineering, consulting). You will be commercially minded and be able to demonstrate exceptional relationship building, advising and influencing skills. You will be used to voicing your opinion and sharing best practices with Partners, in a way which is enjoyable for them.

You will have sound financial numeracy and use this to influence sustainable profitable growth from BD and Client planning and initiatives. You will bring some client facing and key account management experience to your application – though this could have been as part of a broader BD position. It is important that you enjoy being part of a collaborative team and are pro-active about being a team player.
