We are delighted that Richard Chaplin, Founder & Chief Executive of the PM Forum, a 3,000 strong body of professional services marketers with members in 38 countries, a leading magazine, and events in the UK, Ireland, Continental Europe, the Middle East and Canada, has arranged to stop over in Singapore on his journey home from the ICON conference in Sydney.
Richard has agreed to lead an in-person breakfast roundtable that explores career progression through skills development. He will draw heavily on the findings of the annual international marketing salaries and performance reviews survey, which was completed by 164 PM Forum members and 69 ICON members in June 2023. Some of the career challenges highlighted by survey respondents include:
- Many professional services firms are impeded by a skills development gap.
- Learning cultures are often best described as haphazard.
- There is often an inability to consider value added in salary discussions.
- Benefits involving skills development are given lower priority than most other types of benefit.
- The specialist skills of marketing, BD and comms professionals are often not considered.
- Line managers are seen as less skilled at identifying L&D needs compared with other review-based activities.
- There is limited reliance on hard evidence, with self-assessment the primary input to reviews.
Richard will also preview a sophisticated Skills Development Platform that is being launched next month for PM Forum members who feel held back by these career challenges. The Platform transforms the way that participating members can develop their skills, track their performance and drive their personal development plans.
