ICON Mentoring

Mentoring is strong within the ICON community and this facilitated program actively connects mentors and mentees in the same geographic region.

ICON’s most senior members take pride in giving back to the profession via mentoring relationships and mentees benefit from the significant experience and networks of these leaders.

ICON’s mentoring program encourages mentees to take ownership of their own goals and aspirations and actively seek advice from their mentors. Mentors encourage mentees to identify current and future challenges, helping them to become prepared and resilient professionals.

Mentors also benefit from the program by polishing their leadership skills and getting fresh perspectives from younger professionals.

The ICON Mentor Program is delivered through the Regional Committees. Please contact your local committee for more information.

The program encourages mentees to:

Identify goals and create strategies to achieve these goals

Receive advice and networking opportunities

Confront and discuss existing challenges

Identify their next challenge

Mentors will benefit from:

Developing their own leadership skills while helping others to develop theirs

Learning from mentees’ innovative ideas and concepts

Developing creative solutions to challenges presented by the mentee

Helping to shape the careers of marketers within professional services

Giving back to the professional services sector  which they have been part of for many years

There are both immediate and long term benefits for mentees:

Strategies and tools for achieving career aspirations

A stronger sense of professional self

Increased self esteem and confidence

Improvement in existing skills and development of new skills

An insight into leadership and management roles

Increased networking opportunities

The best mentor and mentee relationships are often those which develop naturally on their own accord over time. The ICON mentoring program is designed to simply kick-start the mentoring process by connecting mentees to mentors they would perhaps be unable to connect with outside the program. Once connected, it is up to the mentor and mentee as to how they structure and maintain their professional relationship. It is expected that many relationships will continue to grow and prosper once the six month program is complete.

    ICON NSW Mentoring Program Launch

The ICON NSW Committee is excited to launch the 2018/19 Mentoring Program.

For those of you not already familiar with it, this ICON initiative is designed to increase influence, build collaboration, and extend the opportunity to network among B2B professionals.

The aim of this program is to enhance a mentee’s abilities in their current role through connecting them with the experience of a mentor within our community. Through providing guidance and strategies that will allow mentee’s to improve their performance and confidence, this program will create an influential contribution to the mentee’s career. Mentors will also benefit from developing their leadership skills and shaping the careers of future B2B professionals.

As with our prior year’s programs, this year we will run two programs – one for junior-mid level B2B professionals (Assistant through to Advisor/Executive) and one for our senior cohort of B2B professionals (Manager and above).

Our junior-mid level program will run in a similar fashion to previous years with one scheduled meeting each month for a total of six meetings, or more if mutually agreed between the mentor and mentee. The suggested length of each meeting is one hour and can be arranged at a time, date and location suitable for both parties – we suggest catching up at a café over coffee. Additional communication may include phone or email interaction, again depending on what is agreed upon between you.

The senior program will run in the same way as the junior-mid level program, however, it is designed to act as an "ideas network" for senior B2B professionals – sharing ideas across non-competing industries in a confidential environment. We suggest that the mentor and mentee meet on six occasions, however, this will again be at the discretion of the mentor and mentee. (Mentors from the junior program are, of course, also welcome to apply to be a mentee in the senior program.)
