The Sparkke Change Beverage Company, founded by acclaimed winemaker Rose Kentish and marketing guru Kari Allen, is a “for purpose” alcohol company that produces award-winning 100% natural beers and wine. At heart, they’re social activists demanding more from Australia’s $4 billion p.a. plus beer industry. They’re a genuinely progressive social enterprise and are raising awareness and funds for important social issues.

Fortunately for us, they’ve recently settled down in the heart of Adelaide, and have given the old Whitmore Hotel a $2+ million makeover! The newly opened “Brew Pub” features a beer garden, rooftop bar, restaurant, and customisable event spaces. Designed alongside Adelaide’s Troppo Architects they’ve created a sustainable, authentic and flexible space. Not a poker machine or betting agency in sight!

The Sparkke Change Beverage Company is a social enterprise that raises awareness and funds for important social issues, and with a group of young female-championing brewers and winemakers at the helm, they are challenging tackling the entrenched cultural and gender stereotypes driving Australia’s male dominated alcohol industry.

So join us in this sparkk-ling new location for a “brew & chew” as they share with us the social enterprise that is Sparkke Change Beverage Company, and how it was formed to positively disrupt the alcohol industry.

Presenter details:

Rose Kentish & Kari Allen of Sparkke Change Beverage Company

In 1997, Rose and her artist husband Sam Harrison purchased the family’s 1969 McLaren Vale vineyard called Ulithorne. With no previous winemaking or grapegrowing experience, Rose and Sam restored the old vineyard and Rose then began making super premium shiraz from the vines. In 2001, Rose released her first commercial wine since then her wines have received enthusiastic praise. In 2010, with itchy feet to push herself further in the world of winemaking, Rose packed up her 4 young children and with her husband, artist Sam Harrison, headed to France to make wines in southern France and on the island of Corsica. Every year she returns to the south of France and makes wines with the same family estates and sends them home to Australia for customers to enjoy.

Rose has sat on several Boards including The Fleurieu Biennale, McLaren Vale Grape Wine & Tourism Association and her family’s Farm Board.

Kari has extensive international strategic marketing experience with iconic companies such as RM Williams, NIKE, ANZ and LendLease, and is now applied full time to this disruptive social enterprise. In late 2016, Kari launched Sparkke Change Beverage Company with the most successful alcohol crowd funding campaign in Australia’s history.

Rose Kentish and Kari Allen co-founded Sparkke Change Beverage Company. Deep conversation turned into action – their intention was to “put the good back into the alcohol industry” and show allies and millennials how empowering it can feel when they understood that their purchasing decisions can influence the type of future world in which they were going to live.
