Communication is an integral part of the vast majority of professional services jobs. Even those roles without a specific communications function generally require almost continuous communication.

Most of this communication is so common-place that few people stop to think about its strategic implications. Emails, meeting notes, internal presentations and many other examples of "everyday" communications are frequently thrown together almost on autopilot.

But the words we select, the tone we choose and even the channels we use can have profound consequences.

This presentation will take a practical look at how to communicate better in a business environment. It will outline the importance of audience analysis, different communications strategies for different personality types and how to ensure any piece of written communication is clear and well-constructed.

Dan Pollard, BBS Communications

Dan has more than 15 years’ experience in communications and engagement, working as the principal media and issues officer at TransLink and communications adviser to the Deputy Mayor of Brisbane. Dan has also provided strategic communications advice on major infrastructure projects like the Moreton Bay Rail Link and Port of Brisbane Motorway Upgrade.

Dan has provided media strategy and advice to major organisations such as Grant Thornton, RetireAustralia, Shine Lawyers and Bank of Queensland.

Dan is an experienced speechwriter, drafting speeches for former Premier Anna Bligh, former Transport Minister John Mickel, Minister for Communities Shannon Fentiman and numerous corporate leaders.
