    Our 2019 reverse, cross-industry mentoring program in WA is about to take flight and we would like you to participate.

    There are many benefits to being involved in a mentoring program. Mentors have an opportunity to invest themselves in someone who is keen to learn from a seasoned professional. Mentees are able to share ideas with someone who has walked down the same path. At ICON, we are pleased to share the benefits of mentoring with our members.

    Our WA mentoring program is now it its second year. This cost-effective program matches professionals aspiring to leadership with established senior leaders and provides a framework for creating and building mentoring relationships.

    New to ICON WA’s mentoring program?

    To formalise your participation, there are two easy steps:

    (1) Complete an application form so we have a better understanding of what you’re looking to benefit from our program and so we can ensure you’re matched with a mentor/mentee appropriately. Mentoring Application Form - click here. Please complete and return your application to Kristy Rewell by 1 March 2019; and

    (2) Complete registration as outlined below.

    As your mentor/mentee may have let you know, now is the time to renew your registration for the current year. All you need to do is click “register” as outlined below and you are all set.

    For Mentees (less than 8 years professional B2B marketing experience)

    For Mentors (more than 8 years of professional B2B marketing experience, manager or higher title)

    Ryan Shelley will be taking a deep dive into social media and how it can be wielded effectively and practically for marketing strategies of any firm size.

    He will start by having a look at the current state of social media in Australia and will finish by sharing an extremely practical 3 step plan that any firm can use to be successful on social media.

      Ryan Shelley is the Managing Director of Pepper IT, a full service digital and social media agency with a growing reputation as the leading agency for leveraging digital media for professional services firms.

      Regarded as a social media expert, Ryan is regularly called upon to give expert advice, recommendations and presentations on all things Digital Marketing. He has recently been called upon to provide expert commentary to the likes of ABC, Channel 7, SBS, News.com.au and Pacific Magazines publications as well as numerous industry publications and national and local newspapers.

      Graduating from the University of Sydney, Ryan has an Engineering Degree specialising in Electronic Commerce. This fundamental knowledge of the technical, combined with the practical application of Digital Marketing, makes Ryan’s full spectrum approach unique.

      With close to twenty years’ experience working in boutique and consulting roles for some of the nation’s largest professional service organisations - from law, real estate, property and private equity to the NASDAQ stock exchange, Ryan enjoys the diversity and complexity of the technical side, while working with his clients to enhance and leverage their online presences.

      It’s that time of year again to use your professional skills and talent for good! After the roaring success of last year’s Charity Hackathon - where we helped three charities find the way forward to tackle specific strategic, marketing and communications challenges - ICON WA members told us to make this a regular fixture on the calendar.

      So, join us on Friday 11th October afternoon to finish your week off with a real ‘Feel-good’ factor as you rise to the issues brought to the table by four more charities and social enterprises (SEs) in need.

      Our friends from Foundation for Indigenous Sustainable Health (FISH), Cahoots, Law Access and The Smith Family can’t wait to collaborate with the unique mix of talented ICON members on ways to address challenges and opportunities they face, many of which are common in our own organizations. Most charities and SEs run on minimal marketing resources and funds so your help will assist greatly.

      How it works? We’re holding a lunchtime workshop where our chosen organisations will share a top pain point within our area of expertise. ICON members, working in teams, will then act as quasi Board Directors and use design thinking principles to co-develop ideas that can be implemented to boost strategic marketing efforts.

      Who are the charities/ SEs?

      • Foundation for Indigenous Sustainable Health (FISH) is a registered Australian tax exempt charity committed to breaking the cycle of generational trauma, poverty and engagement in the justice system for Aboriginal people and enabling them to be valued by and able to positively contribute to their community. FISH’s vision is that Aboriginal people are confident, connected, healthy, have equal opportunities with education, training, employment and life choices and are valued as positive, healing and leading contributors to community in connecting people to caring for each other and caring for their country.       • Cahoots creates inclusive opportunities for children and young people living with disability and others that face exceptional challenges to develop friendships, skills and confidence. As a registered NDIS provider, they run a variety of programs and camps throughout the year, catering to children and young people of all abilities. Cahoots mission is to create inclusive opportunities for children and young people living with disability and others that face exceptional challenges to develop friendships, skills and confidence.       • Law Access is a not-for-profit organisation that coordinates the giving of pro bono (no fee) legal assistance by the Western Australian legal profession. Our vision is equal access to justice for all Western Australians. The service is targeted at not-for-profits and individuals in genuine need of legal assistance who satisfy a means and merits test. As a community legal service of last resort, we assist some of the most vulnerable people in WA from all over the State in family, criminal and civil law to connect with lawyers willing to assist them on a pro bono (no fee) basis. Where appropriate we also make referrals for pro bono lawyer assisted mediation. More information available on their website.
      • The Smith Family is the largest children’s education charity helping young Australians in need to succeed at school, so they can create better futures for themselves. The Smith Family’s flagship Learning for Life program currently helps more than 43,000 young Australians from disadvantaged backgrounds to succeed at school, through an innovative three-pronged approach. Learning for Life provides each student with a combination of financial and personal support, as well as vital learning and mentoring programs that help them keep up and stay motivated throughout their school years. This proven, holistic approach is improving the attendance and advancement rates at school for young people living in disadvantage, and in addition, is enabling them to be engaged in higher education studies, training or work after leaving the program. Matt uses his unique experience in the police and as the Acting Chief Strategy Officer at Deloitte to help firms develop a deep understanding of the experience they are currently creating for their customers.

Yet too many businesses are leaving this to chance and in many cases barely doing enough to keep up with their competition. Together with you, he seeks to understand how they truly feel and think, not just what they are prepared to say.
